Ontario requires a signed Safety Standards Certificate before you can register a rebuilt vehicle, a used vehicle, an imported vehicle or a vehicle that was previously declared unfit.

If your vehicle passes, we issue the certificate. It is valid for 36 days from the inspection date. It confirms the vehicle met government standards on that day; it is not a warranty on the vehicle’s overall condition.

Book an inspection before you register a vehicle that needs a certificate, or before you buy a used vehicle.

Our Pre-Purchase Inspection includes the signed Safety Standards Certificate if the vehicle meets the standard, plus our comments on its general condition and value. It costs $249.95.
